Boys Town Alumna Returns to Make a Difference

Jennifer Lawrence, a 2006 Boys Town graduate, recently reflected on why she considers Boys Town her home. After serving 10 years in the Navy, Jennifer returned to Boys Town to become a staff member and currently works at our high school.

When I first came to Boys Town from California, I felt abandoned and unloved. After my father remarried and he and his new wife had a baby, I felt like an outcast in my own family. I really hated myself and was filled with so much anger.

I quickly learned, though, that Boys Town was nothing like what I had experienced in the past. I knew that all the adults around me genuinely cared about me and wanted me to do well. My Family-Teachers® showed me how I could love myself, accept my flaws and move forward. For the first time in a long time, I felt important. I participated and excelled in sports and was even elected Vice Mayor, something I would have never dreamed was possible before Boys Town.

This place is my home and always will be. I still cannot believe I work here, helping kids who were just like me. That means the world to me.
